AVON, Colorado ” The Avon Recreation Center’s Kickball League has come to an end for 2008.

This is the first year I have been a part of “Team Where My Pitches At?”, previously known as “KickBalls.” KickBalls won the 2007 kickball championship game, so this year we had to defend our title.

It was a season of four spectacular wins and three tough losses but we found ourselves in fourth place out of seven teams entering the playoffs. Our first five-inning game was against the Red, White and Blue Balls who came out balling in the first inning only to end the game “balling” as the final score was 8-1.

We moved onto Camp Vail, a team who had squeaked by us twice during the season, barely winning both times we faced them. We found ourselves in a 2-2 tie in the bottom of the fourth inning against an evenly matched team. Final score: 4-2 with a great defensive stop in the fifth.

It was time to defend the title and show Avon rec that their kickball championship game was one worth attending. Our opponent: a team called Blackout who was our only regular season loss last year and was undefeated and untouched this year. We did not face them during the season but knew this would be a rough game.

The pitcher for Blackout, Billy, brought the heat and kept it at a 0-0 game until the bottom of the third inning when we opened up a 2-0 lead that needed to hold up. The top of the fourth was an inning with some botched catches and missed opportunities, but ended with Blackout only scoring one run.

We held them off in the fifth with a controversial play at second base to win the championship kickball game, 2-1.

After the game the assistant coach, Kirk Chapman, had this to say: “‘Where My Pitches At?’ proved even with a new name, they are the same kick-butt mo-fo team, not to be messed with and who always has their eyes on the prize, once again putting Team Blackout in their place ” behind us.”

Great season “Where My Pitches At?” We will see you all next season.
