Avon launches bike-share program; bikes available at four stations in town
AVON — The town of Avon launched its bike-share program this week, providing residents and visitors with a convenient, affordable and healthy way to get around town.
Avon’s bike-share program is part of the town’s comprehensive, multimodal effort to reduce personal vehicle use and implementation of Avon’s Climate Action Plan. Along with development of pedestrian-friendly changes, fare-free transit system and free public parking, the bike-share program will continue to enhance Avon’s Free Spaces to Explore.
Twenty cruiser bikes will be available at four stations for riders to use for on-demand, local trips. Riders join the program by signing up for annual memberships or hourly uses. The bikes will be available from May through October, depending on the weather.
Avon’s bike share features the Zagster 8, an award-winning bike known for its practical design, comfortable ride and easy handling. The bike includes a basket for carrying groceries, takeout or personal belongings, and every bike includes automatic lights, a bell and full reflectors. Bike locations can be found at Avon Station, Eaglebend, City Market and The Aspens. Learn more at http://www.avon.org/2104/avon-bike-share-program.
