Avon library celebrates literacy for all
VAIL CO, Colorado
On Monday, the Avon Public Library will join hundreds of libraries in celebration of the 15th anniversary of El dia de los ninos/El dia de los libros (children’s day/book day). The library will offer a variety of multicultural programs for elementary school-age children and their families at 3:30 p.m. on Monday.
El dia de los ninos/El dia de los libros is a celebration every day of children, families, and reading that culminates every spring. The celebration emphasizes the importance of advocating literacy for children of all linguistic and cultural backgrounds.
“Libraries are places that support family, education, self-help, lifelong learning, and diversity,” said Liz Sortland, spanish speaking outreach specialist at Avon Public Library. “Through literacy events and programs like Dia de los ninos, libraries are working with parents and caregivers to raise avid readers.”
The Avon Public Library will offer a bilingual celebration with bilingual stories, music, dance and cake. This program is free and open to the public. For more information, call 970-949-6797.
