Avon: Local heroes will be honored at council meeting

Daily staff report
Avon, CO Colorado

AVON, Colorado ” The men who helped rescue and save the life of a truck driver who crashed late last year on Interstate 70 in Avon, Colorado will be honored at Tuesday night’s Town Council meeting.

Avon police will present Vail firefighter Mike Malec and locals Bradley Dorcas, Alan Sharp and Robert Pickens with the Life Saving Award for their efforts in rescuing Tim Rooney, who suffered a massive heart attack while driving a semi-truck on Dec. 26 and crashed at one of the Avon exits on the interstate.

The men gave CPR and directed traffic and were able to bring Rooney back to life and keep him stable until the fire department arrived.

Because of the altitude, Rooney won’t be able to make the ceremony, but his daughter will be in attendance to thank the men who helped save her father’s life.
