Avon man charged with creating fake IDs

EAGLE COUNTY, Colorado ” A 22-year-old Avon man has been arrested and charged with creating and selling fake identification cards.

The Eagle County Sheriff’s Office says Jorge Luis Loera Esparza manufactured and sold a fake U.S. Immigration Card and fake Social Security Card to an undercover detective.

A concerned citizen alerted the Sheriff’s Office to Esparza’s alleged criminal activity, police said.

The undercover detective contacted Esparza, who met the detective in the parking lot of his Avon apartment complex, police said. Esparza took the detective’s photograph with a digital camera and went to his apartment nearby, police said. Esparza returned with the two forged cards a short time later and sold them to the detective for $100, police said. He was then arrested.

Esparza cooperated with law enforcement and turned over his computer equipment used to manufacture the cards, police said. Esparza is believed to have manufactured over 100 fake cards, police said. His sophisticated computer software was also capable of manufacturing fake driver’s licenses and vehicle insurance cards, police said.

Esparza was charged with felony forgery, felony possession of a forged instrument and felony possession of a forgery device. He is being held on a $2,500 bond and and an “immigration detainer” has been placed on him.
