Avon moving money to re-line park’s lake
Board: Avon Town Council, Nov. 22 work session and evening meeting.Present: Reynolds, Ferarro, Evans, Carroll, Phillips, Dantas, Goulding.Issue: Update on the 2012 budget.Who they talked to: Town finance manager Scott Wright. Wright told council members that he’s moved around money in the town’s capital improvement fund and water fund to free up cash for replacing the liner in Nottingham Lake.The lake developed a leak this year, and a temporary plug seems to be holding, but the entire liner on the lake will have to be replaced, probably in 2013.Wright also told council members about roughly $1 million in economic development funds available to the town over the next two years. That money will be used for building facilities, but a decision hasn’t been made yet about what those facilities might be.Issue: Liquor code violation at the Westin Riverfront Resort & Spa.Who they talked to: Town attorney Eric Heil and Westin general manager Bob Trotter.What happened? A bartender at an event at the hotel on a Friday in August inadvertently served an underage customer. Trotter acknowledged that the incident took place, and told council members about the training all bartenders at the hotel have to take. Trotter also said the bartender was fired immediately after the violation.What happened? The council thanked Trotter for his honesty, and gave the hotel a warning.
