AVON ” Matthew Gennett has been named the new Senior Planner for the Town of Avon.

Gennett comes to us from the Town of Vail where he worked as a Planner for over 4 years. Part of what makes Gennett a valuable asset to the Town of Avon is his education and experience in long range planning, in addition to his ability to manage multiple large projects.

Gennett brings with him exceptionally relevant redevelopment experience from his work at the Town of Vail. Gennett managed such projects as the new Four Seasons Resorts, the Middle Creek affordable housing project, the West Vail Redevelopment Master Plan, the Timberline Lodge at Vail project (the old Roost Lodge), and the West Vail Fire Station/Chamonix Parcel Master Plan to name a few.

Gennett, born in New York, attended school in Ithaca, New York, and received his undergraduate degree in English Literature from Ithaca College and his graduate degree in Community Planning and Development from the University of Maine.

Prior to moving to Colorado, Gennett resided in Maine for five years and worked as a professional Ski Patroller at Sugarloaf USA.

Leaving Maine, he accepted a job with Eagle County in the Community Development Department as a Long Range Planner, where he worked for 3 years before working for Vail. Gennett is AICP certified (American Institute of Certified Planners).

In his role as Senior Planner, Gennett’s primary responsibilities will be to manage the large planning projects currently in process, including the efforts of both Town Center West and Town Center East development plans. This will require substantial coordination with property owners, Town consultants, and the elected and appointed policy bodies

Avon Town Manager Larry Brooks said, “We are fortunate to add Matt to our Community Development team. He brings a nice set of skills to a talented department that will serve Avon well as development and redevelopment opportunities are presented.”

Gennett lives in Wildridge with his wife, Michelle, of one year and new baby boy, Roman. Gennett is an avid skier, mountain biker, hockey player and tennis player who loves to be in the outdoors and around great people.
