Avon plans water work this fall

Vail Daily staff report
Vail, CO Colorado

AVON – This fall, two water maintenance projects are underway in Nottingham Park in Avon.

First, the sediment pond immediately east of Nottingham Lake has been drained and is awaiting sediment removal, which should occur early this month. The pond maintains water quality in the lake by trapping sediment before it enters the lake. There may occasionally be trucks on the park’s paths hauling sediment.

Second, the concrete and rock spillway on the west face of Benchmark Dam will be replaced starting mid-October. The project will include removing a portion of the asphalt path on the west side of the lake, removing the two deteriorated spillway pipes and the concrete channel.

New piping, access ports, and a concrete outfall structure will be installed in place of the existing spillway. The project is anticipated to be complete by the end of October. In order to perform the work, the water level in Nottingham Lake will be lowered approximately six feet from normal.
