Avon police give out awards

AVON, Colorado ” Residents who have shown a commitment to the community and its police department were recognized at Tuesday’s town council meeting.

Lizbeht Arana has received the chief’s community partnership award. On May 28, Avon police investigated a child abuse case which required Spanish translation. Arana, who is a teacher, volunteered to assist. She accompanied an officer to several locations late into the evening to assist with the investigation.

Also receiving the chief’s partnership aware were Hope Flores, Susan Bruno and Karen Peck, who have volunteered to organize the upcoming National Night Out parties on Aug. 5 in Wildridge, the Eaglebend neighborhood and in the Aspens mobile home park.

Officer Aurion Hassinger, Officer Jeremy Holmstrom and Officer Elizabeth Hudson have won the teamwork award. These three officers worked together on an investigation that led to the arrest of a burglary suspect on April 25.

This same team then safely apprehended several suspects on April 26 who were wanted by the Eagle County Sheriff’s Office for being involved in a shotgun shooting.

The officers obtained confessions and recovered the shotgun.
