Avon Police takes 3rd place in challenge

AVON, Colorado – The Avon Police Department was recognized by the Colorado State Patrol with a third place award for its involvement in the 2009 Law Enforcement Challenge. The Police Department was presented the award by Capt. Richard Duran from the Colorado State Patrol at the Sept. 14 Avon Town Council meeting.

The challenge was designed to strengthen and support traffic enforcement leading to improved safety within the town of Avon. The challenge focused on three specific traffic safety priorities: occupant protection, impaired driving and speeding.

The Avon Police Department entered the competition in order to recognize the excellent work done by its police officers educating and protecting the community in traffic safety. This is a national law enforcement competition where police departments are graded based on their size and whether they meet specific criteria in the application process.-
