Avon reaches million-dollar deal with landowner
AVON ” Avon will pay a landowner a total of $1 million for a parcel of land on Benchmark Road it condemned last fall in order to build a bus hub.
Avon paid a deposit of $544,800 in October and has agreed to pay A.T.S Joint Venture and Al Williams an additional $455,200 for the land also envisioned as a light rail stop and passageway from a planned pedestrian mall, across railroad tracks, to the new development on the riverfront.
Avon also replaced the parking area taken in the condemnation.
“Obtaining this property was a necessary step to meet the growing transportation needs of our valley,” Mayor Ron Wolfe said,
The final agreement works out to about $63 per square foot, which compares favorably with other recent sales in Avon, Wolfe said.
The transit center is designed so at least five buses that can get in and out of the hub at any time. Buses comes through Avon 20 hours a day.
