Avon rec is home to the ‘not-so-usual’ adult classes

Organizers at the Avon Recreation Center understand that kids can’t have all the fun. The center is offering unusual classes for adults this winter. Here is a break down of the classes. To register or for more information, call the rec center at 748-4060. Belly dancing Take part in an exploration of movement that has been used by women for decades to gain flexibility, strength and an appreciation of the human body. Amanda Hoffert will instruct this new class. Hailing from Minnesota, Hoffert has been studying and co-instructing with Eman Haddad from Jordania and performing on stage with the Duluth Pyramid Dancers for the past five years. Anyone can belly dance, Hoffert said, and it’s a great way to release tension and target the stomach and hip muscles. Hip-hop and break dance Colin Meiring instructs this basic hip-hop and break dance class, teaching moves like six step, windmill, hand plant, coffee grinder and basic flip. It’s open to all levels. Meiring has more than 30 years experience in all dance forms. He has performed on Broadway and around the world. His TV work includes dance choreography with Madonna and Michael Jackson on MTV videos. Ballroom danceLearn the Fox Trot, Waltz, Swing, Cha Cha and the Rumba during this ten week course. No black soled shoes are permitted in the aerobics studio, leather soles are preferred, please wear sneakers. Couples are recommended, but singles are welcome. Inner Tube Water polo LeagueFloating in an inner tube has never been such a workout. This league combines the fast pace of water polo with the skill of floating down a river. The rules for water polo are modified to create a team sport that is for the recreational athlete. Co-ed teams of three women and four men compete Tuesday nights at the Rec center from 6-8:30pm, starting Feb. 14-March 28. Broomball League 51470Broomball is back and will begin Jan. 10, weather permitting. This co-ed league allows teams to test their skills against one another at Avon’s Nottingham Lake.Vail, Colorado
