Avon Recreation Center catches the food drive spirit
Vail CO, Colorado
As one of the drop off locations for the Vail Police Department’s annual community food drive, the Avon Recreation Center is going the extra mile to encourage patrons to donate food.
This Friday and Saturday, October 26 -27th, the Avon Recreation Center is offering a wooden nickel, which allows for 2 for 1 entry, for 3 cans or more of donated food.
“This food drive is an important part of helping those less fortunate in our community,” said Meryl Jacobs, Director of the Avon Recreation Center. “We really wanted to do something to encourage people to give more and a wooden nickel in exchange for food seemed like a great idea.”
For Vail’s collection drive, non-perishable items such as canned goods, rice, beans, pasta, cereal and juices are suggested and needed. Participants are asked to refrain from donating items stored in glass containers, items with expired dates or homemade food items.
All food collected will remain in EagleCounty and will be distributed via the Food Rescue Express, Salvation Army and Eagle County Resource Center.
