Avon reminds residents to maintain ditches
July 6, 2010
AVON, Colorado – The town of Avon is reminding property owners of their responsibility to maintain drainage ditches and driveway culverts that abut their properties.-
Avon law stipulates that surface ditches and driveway culverts should be kept mowed and kept free of landscaping materials, irrigation lines and head, grass clippings, tree branches, yard waste, trash and other debris so that stormwater can flow through them. It is the responsibility of the abutting property owner to keep all storm drainage ditches and driveway culverts unobstructed. The town clears all town-owned and maintained land.-
The town will be sending notices by certified letter in the coming weeks to property owners who are not in compliance. Property owners will then have 30 days to comply with the request. If no action is taken by the property owner, the town will take action to have the work completed, by the Public Works department or by contract, and the costs for the work charged to the owner.
For more information on this ordinance or for a map of town-maintained land, call Avon Public Works at 970-748-4100.-
