Avon reviews budget
Vail, CO Colorado
AVON, Colorado – During Avon’s annual budget retreat on Tuesday, the Avon Town Council heard from each town department on their 2010 accomplishments and future projections for 2011. The retreat allows the Town Council to strategically review government programming and services and understand the Town’s current financial picture.-
Overall, Avon’s proposed $25.2 million budget for 2011 recommends a decrease in expenditures to account for declines in revenue. As in 2010, there are no additional municipal services or programs under consideration. Many programs in fact were reduced in 2010, eliminating $2.3 million in operating expenses from the budget. Cost-savings measures that were implemented include shortened hours at the Recreation Center, consolidating transit services, line-item cuts, implementing a town-wide furlough for full-time employees, salary reduction, workforce reduction, job sharing, freezing positions, and adjustments to the health care plan. These cost savings measures will continue in 2011.
Department heads shared with council measures to continue to streamline programs, staffing and services.
Avon’s proposed budget is available on the town’s website at http://www.avon.org. Budget hearings and public comment will take place on Nov. 9 during the regularly scheduled council meeting beginning at 5:30 pm in the Avon Council Chambers.
