Avon Snow Ball returning; new cycling event seeks a home
Vail, CO Colorado
AVON, Colorado – The Snow Ball Music Festival plans to return to Nottingham Park March 2-4 of next year.
While the first festival this year drew an audience of thousands, it also drew complaints from those who live around the park. Concert organizers will hold an informational meeting Nov. 16 at 5:30 p.m. in the Avon Town Council chambers to talk about the next event. The meeting is open to the public.
While Snow Ball is trying to establish itself as an annual event, another event is looking to Avon for its first go ’round.
Independence Endurance Sports has approached the town about hosting or participating in August of next year in an “Italian themed” cycling event called a Gran Fondo.
The event is expected to include vendors, interactive booths and rides – not races – for participants.
While organizers are looking at Avon, Vail and Beaver Creek to host the event, the weekend of Aug. 18 and 19 is already booked for the town’s annual Dock Dogs Weekend. It’s also the weekend before the USA Pro Cycling Challenge.
Organizers estimate the events could bring more than 3,500 participants and spectators – and more than 700 room nights – to the host city. But a recent memo to the Town Council from town special events supervisor Danita Chirichillo states that the town might not be able to be the host city because of the other events.
