Avon takes countywide food challenge further

AVON, Colorado ” The Avon Town Council will be out on Friday from 4-7 p.m., greeting shoppers at its local City Market and encouraging them to donate food to help out the county’s food pantry, whose stock is currently very low.

And Avon plans several other activities to encourage ongoing food donations.

The town will continue the food drive throughout the month of June. Donation sites have been set up at the Avon Recreation Center and Town Hall. In addition, the Avon Police Department is also organizing a dodgeball tournament with other local emergency agencies in order to raise food donations. Each team will be required to donate 20 different items of food listed on the Salvation Army’s pantry guidelines.

PCL Construction will also be at City Market on Friday evening, handing out 100 free canvas reusable bags to encourage shoppers to reduce their plastic bag use.


Big snow expected to dump on Vail Valley through the weekend

Snow usually comes and goes in this part of the state. A forecasted storm is expected to stick around for a while. Forecasters are calling for snow to persist throughout the weekend in the high country, with a prospect of a couple of feet of powder by the time the storm starts to diminish on Monday.
