Avon uses 10,000 fewer plastic bags

AVON, Colorado The town of Avon, Colorado says 9,880 fewer plastic bags were used in town this March. Shoppers at City Market accounted for most of the reduction. Avon Liquor, Natures Provider, Sports Authority, Village Wine & Spirits and Wishes also counted the number of reusable bags being used in March.The mountain town BYOB (bring your own bag) Challenge began March 1 and ends Sept. 1. Businesses that participate should have a contest poster. Twenty-six ski towns are participating in the contest and the winner gets a $5,000 grant from Alpine Bank to help install a solar panel system at a public school.Wal-Mart, one of Avon’s largest merchants, began counting reusable bags this month.
