Avon wrestles with bus expansion

Daily Staff Report
Avon, CO Colorado

AVON, Colorado “-Avon, Colorado Town Manager Larry Brooks is pushing for the council and town staff to sit down and seriously look at the possible expansion of the town’s bus service and its connectivity with Beaver Creek.

Bus service isn’t getting cheaper, and expanding it means the money has to come from somewhere, said Councilman Brian Sipes.

The council can assume the current drop in gas prices is only temporary, and adding service to places like the village or Wildridge, or increasing service elsewhere, means the voters would have to approve a way to raise the money.

Brooks says this is too important to ignore, and wants the discussions to begin soon enough to get a ballot question in November.

Discussions with the Beaver Creek Resort Company are crucial, he said, since both could benefit from more buses between the town and the resort.
