Avondale in Avon hosts Green Drinks Thursday
AVON, Colorado The Eagle Valley Alliance for Sustainability is hosting the February Eagle Valley Green Drinks on Thursday from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. at the Westin Riverfront Resort & Spa in Avon.This event is free of charge and open to the public. Green Drinks is a community event centered on socializing while discussing lifestyles of health and environmental sustainability. It is an opportunity to get to know others in the community, learn about green living and what that means in our unique community. The Westin has built the resort hotel from the green up. From the construction materials to hotel operations, the property has committed to being true to its Beaver Creek Mountain setting through low-impact approaches that are respectful of both the environment and the community. The property is on track to achieve Colorados first resort LEED certification. Avondale, the restaurant inside the Westin, will offer $3 draft beer, organic cocktail and wine specials, along with a few munchies to go with live music. Parking is free if you stay for dinner at Avondale for its special Green Drinks menu a four-course dinner for $35 per person. For everyone else parking is $8 per hour.Featured this month is the Colorado Carbon Fund, a voluntary carbon offset program developed by the Governors Energy Office. Learn how to measure your emissions from energy use and travel, reduce your emissions through energy efficiency and renewable energy, and offset unavoidable emissions. Funds received from individuals purchasing offsets go to projects locally, domestically and internationally whose focus is new, verifiable, greenhouse gas reductions, clean energy and climate mitigation.The Eagle Valley Alliance will help to arrange carpools for those interested.
