AVON — If you’re looking for a great way to prepare for open water triathlons or duathlons, then Avon’s Dunk-N-Dash series is for you. Dunk-N-Dash is a five-event swim/run series that starts on July 7 at 6 p.m. and takes place every Monday evening through Aug. 4.

This year’s participants will have a chance to win up to $750 cash by competing in all five events. Or participants can participate in at least three races and be entered into the Points Series for a chance to win $250 cash.

“We are so pleased to once again to offer the Dunk-n-Dash series,” said John Curutchet, director of parks and recreation. “Our community truly missed this program last year and now, with the Nottingham Lake liner project complete, we are pleased to not only relaunch Dunk-n-Dash, but also allow open-water swimming in the lake as well as offer SUP and paddle boats for rental at the Log Cabin in Nottingham Park.”

Registration for the entire series is $62 and includes a performance training shirt. Registration for the series is open until 5 p.m. July 6.

Single race registration is available for $15 until 5 p.m. the day before each race at http://www.active.com or you can register at the Avon Recreation Center until 7 p.m.

Race day registration is available for $20 at the Avon Recreation Center until 3 p.m. or at 5 p.m. at the blue town of Avon tent located by Nottingham Lake (cash only).

The swim will be approximately 870 yards (a half mile) or 1,740 yards (1 mile) in Nottingham Lake. Swimmers should be prepared for water temperatures between 65-74 degrees. The 5K run starts and finishes at the lake’s pumphouse. The running course runs north around Nottingham Lake, follows the path to Avon Elementary and turns onto the scenic river recreation path. At “Bob the Bridge,” runners turn around and return on the same path, detouring to the south side of the lake for the finish line.

Post-race snacks will be available for participants, family, and friends beginning at 7 p.m. near the finish at Nottingham Park. All cash prizes will be awarded at the final Dunk-n-Dash event of the summer on Aug. 4.

In case of a lightning storm, a race may be canceled or postponed to the following week. Call the Avon Recreation Center at 970-748-4060 to confirm dates and times should a race need to be rescheduled. Wet suits and swim caps are recommended.
