Avon’s Nottingham Lake Log Cabin opens Saturday
Vail CO, Colorado
AVON, Colorado ” The Log Cabin on Nottingham Lake serves as the central headquarters for the summer recreational activities in Avon. Opening day for the cabin is Saturday and the cabin will be open daily from noon to 8 p.m. through Labor Day.
On opening day paddle boat rentals will be 50 percent off. All paddle boat renters will be eligible to enter a raffle for a 10-hour paddle-boat rental pass to be used throughout the summer.
Four-person paddleboats are available to rent by the hour ($17) or half-hour ($12); life jackets are provided. At least one person 12 years or older must be in the boat at all times. Swimming is prohibited at all times.
This year marks the 27th consecutive year for fishing at Nottingham Lake. The Colorado Division of Wildlife stocks the lake, and state fishing laws apply. Fishing may be conducted from the banks, or while boating and is prohibited from the dock anytime before 10 a.m. or after 8 p.m. Fishing licenses are required and can be purchased at several Avon retail stores. Fishing rods can be purchased at the Nottingham Park Cabin.
For the land lovers the cabin also rents croquet sets, volleyballs, Frisbees, soccer balls, footballs and basketballs for $2.
The Town of Avon’s Nottingham Lake serves as a backup water supply to the area, and is very carefully maintained by the Town of Avon. During the summer the lake hosts fisherman, paddle and other water enthusiasts. The lake is fed by the Eagle River through irrigation ditches and by Buck Creek. The Nottingham Puder and the Metcalf irrigation ditches are diversion water from the Eagle River. All of these waters dump into the sedimentation pond, which settles out any sediment, prior to entering the lake. The outflow structure on the west side of the lake feeds water from the lake back into the Eagle River. This set-up allows a tremendous amount of water circulation and turnover in this small lake.
The Log Cabin is located on the North East corner of Nottingham Lake. The cabin is available for birthday parties and includes paddle boat rentals. The direct cabin number is 970-748-4086 or you can call the Avon Recreation Center at 970-748-4060. Visit http://www.avonrec.org for more information.
