NIWOT, Colorado – Stephen Bailey, of Niwot, won the Republican primary in the 2nd Congressional District on Tuesday.

He defeated Bob Brancato, a private investigator from Firestone. With 68 percent of precincts reporting, Bailey had 69.4 percent of the votes, and Brancato had 30.5 percent.

Bailey will face incumbent Democrat Jared Polis in the general election.

“I am honored by the voters’ decision and will be working hard to unseat Jared Polis in the November general election,” Bailey said in a press release. “I am running to bring sanity back to our nation’s government. It is time to restore the people’s confidence in our nation’s leaders, and my platform is focused on helping businesses create jobs, bringing transparency and fiscal discipline back to government, and returning America to its constitutional principles.”

The 2nd Congressional District includes Eagle County and stretches to Boulder.
