RED CLIFF — Running unopposed, Anuschka Bales will vacate her spot on the Board of Trustees and take over the mayor position after Tuesday’s polling place election.
Lorenzo Sandoval and Valarie Blevins earned four-year terms on the board of trustees with 48 and 35 votes, respectively. Amelia Neat and Jake Spears will both be on the board, but a coin flip at the next meeting on April 19 will determine who gets a four-year term and who gets the two-year term, since both tied with 31 votes each.
“I think my time on the board really inspired me to get even more involved, and I feel that now I have the time and energy to dedicate to the position,” Bales said of becoming mayor.
The new board will continue the work to bring internet service to town, working with the U.S. Forest Service for a tower near Ski Cooper, as well as working to upgrade infrastructure and services.
“Everything the town struggles with boils down to economics,” Bales said. “We are currently on the path to much greater financial health than this town has seen in a long time.”
