BEAVER CREEK — If ballet were football, BalletBoyz would be in the Super Bowl.

Big, strong, athletic and inspiring, the BalletBoyz bring their astounding interpretation of ballet to the Vilar Performing Arts Center today at 7:30 p.m. Directed by former Royal Ballet dancers Michael Nunn and William Trevitt, BalletBoyz has become one of the hottest dance tickets around, boasting rave reviews and sell-out performances around the world.

For this performance, there will be no tutus, just pure athleticism. British dance phenomenon BalletBoyz is a cutting-edge and critically acclaimed contemporary dance company known to thrill audiences and critics with its distinctive style. The troupe has received worldwide acclaim for performances marked by muscularity and ferocity, as well as refinement and elegance.

This show features two new commissions from leading British choreographers — “The Murmuring,” by Alexander Whitley, and “Mesmerics,” by Christopher Wheeldon — performed by an all-male cast of 10 dancers. Trevitt has described the performance as “a really interesting piece with a very well-crafted, meticulous and moving structure to it; abstract, yet not.”

BalletBoyz was formed in 2001 and its creators have since been hailed as pioneers for making dance accessible and reaching a wider audience through their celebrated stage and television work. Nunn and Trevitt have come to prominence through their popular dance documentaries on U.K. networks such as Channel 4 and the BBC, and in the United States, they have appeared as guest judges on Fox’s “So You Think You Can Dance” and hosted their own spinoff series “A Chance to Dance” on Ovation.

BalletBoyz have been honored with numerous nominations and awards, including a Rose d’Or, International Emmy and Golden Prague Grand Prix for documentary work. In 2013, they received the U.K. Critics’ Circle Award for Best Independent Dance Company. Learn more about the company at
