Daily Staff Report
Special to the Daily"Flat Tops," by Woody Stockwell

VAIL ” The Vail Public Library hosts “Barns and Botanics,” featuring the paintings of local artists Woody Stockwell and Susie Lyons, through Aug. 31. Proceeds from the exhibit benefit the Gore Range Natural Science School. There will be an artists’ reception from 5-7 p.m. today in the community room.

This is Stockwell’s third exhibition at the Vail Library. Stockwell combines a half-century as an architect with a love for the natural landscape to paint buildings and landscapes of regional significance. His paintings are in private collections in Colorado, California and Mexico.

In 2000, Lyons ventured into botanical illustration through the Denver Botanic Gardens certificate program after two decades as a specialty furniture and wall finish artisan. She begins teaching in the Denver Botanic Gardens program this fall. This is her first show in the Vail Valley.
