Battle Mountain dancers 10th in nation

Special to the DailyThe Battle Mountain High School dance team has just finished what its coach calls its most successful year.

EAGLE-VAIL – The Battle Mountain High School dance team just wrapped what team members call its most successful season in its four-year history. The Huskies finished 10th in the nation in the team performance division at the National Dance Championships, held in Orlando, Fla., earlier this month.Over the course of the two-day national competition, Battle Mountain competed against teams from all over the country and the world. One high school team traveled from Japan to participate in the competition.

“Overall, this was a wonderful experience for the dance team,” said coach Andrea Glass. “The dancers competed at their highest level and they represented Battle Mountain High School very well.”The National Dance Championship will be broadcast on Fox Sports Net on April 26th at 3 pm. The show will most likely feature the first place finishers only, but may include clips of all teams competing in the finals. The Huskies would be included in these clips of finalists.

The Huskies success off a very successful year for the team. At the Elitch Gardens Spirit Fest and Colorado State Spirit Competition, the team finished in the top 10, Glass said. The Huskies then took first place in the pom division andsecond in the team performance divisio at the Western Colorado Regional Competition in Grand Junction.

“This team has succeeded and surpassed all expectations because of the talented athletes on the team,” Glass said. “The dancers are incredibly dedicated and work hard year-round to improve their skills and dance technique.
