Battle Mountain principal tabbed for role with district

Daily staff report

EAGLE — Battle Mountain Principal Phil Qualman is the new assistant superintendent of Eagle County Schools.

Qualman replaces longtime district employee Mike Gass, who will be moving to Telluride to become superintendent of Telluride School District.

Qualman has been with Battle Mountain since 2004, first as a social studies teacher and mentor teacher, moving on to Battle Mountain’s assistant principal in 2006 and principal in 2009. He began his teaching career at Woodland Park High School in Woodland, and spent a year teaching English in South Korea.

“Phil has been a tremendous success at BMHS, and I am excited about all he will bring to the critical areas managed by this position,” said Jason Glass, Eagle County Schools superintendent.
