WOLCOTT ” About 100 folks of all ages turned out for the Youth Battle of the Bands on Aug. 1 at the Wolcott Yacht Club. The event, organized by Oliver Farley, was intended to give area youths something “healthy” to do.

Although it rained on the first few bands, the weather broke to give most acts a time to shine on stage.

“The true spirit of rock ‘n’ roll was alive and well in Wolcott,” parent Pat Bultemeier wrote to the Vail Daily.

Rockers, mostly from the valley, ranged in age from 11-18. Young musicians from St. Louis who were on vacation heard about the event and took the stage as The Borrowers because they borrowed all the instruments from other bands.

“As a parent, I’m hopeful that this event will be repeated or other events in the same vein will be created,” Bultemeier wrote. “I applaud all who donated prizes and the folks at the Yacht Club for hosting the event.”
