As we get ready to celebrate the holidays, it is again time for the annual poetry contest. Beaver Creek Resort Company and Blue Creek Productions invite all local poets to write a poem and submit it to the contest. This year’s theme is “My Holiday Wish for a Better World.” What wish or message would you like to share that expresses how you would like to make the world a better place? The winning poet will be able to read his or her poem at the Beaver Creek Resort Company Tree Lighting Ceremony on Nov. 23 at 6 p.m. The throwing of the switch to light the tree and a $100 savings bond are also awarded to the winner.

“It is such a joy to read the various entries to this contest,” said Brian Hall, president of Blue Creek Productions and coordinator of the contest. “The creativity and insight of children warms my heart every time. It’s a magical moment to see the winning child read his or her poem in front of 2,000 people gathered at Beaver Creek during the Tree Lighting Ceremony. The crowd goes wild and the child is just beaming.”

The poetry contest is open to children age 5 through 12. The deadline for all entries is Tuesday, Nov. 20 at 5 p.m. In order to be eligible for the grand prize, entrants MUST be able to attend the Beaver Creek Resort Company Tree Lighting on Nov. 23.

Please fax entries to Blue Creek Productions, Inc. at 926-4181 or email to All entries need to include the child’s full name and age, parent’s name and day and evening phone numbers. For additional information, contact Blue Creek Productions at 926-5855.
