Beaver Creek Art Festival this weekend
BEAVER CREEK – This year, art aficionados can enjoy more than one weekend of fine art with the 19th annual Beaver Creek Art Festival set for both Saturday and Sunday and Aug. 5 and 6 at the Beaver Creek Resort. “This show is one of the top art affairs in the country and so popular that we’ve added an encore weekend,” said Howard Alan, event organizer. “People plan their vacations around this event.”
Beaver Creek Arts Festival was ranked among the top 100 fine art festivals in the U.S. in 2004 by Sunshine Artist magazine.”Not only is this the best art event in Beaver Creek … it is one of the best in the country,” said Tony O’Rourke, director of operations for the Beaver Creek Resort. Visitors will find paintings, life-size sculptures, jewelry, photography, ceramics and more. Prices range from $20 to $20,000. More than $15 million in art will be on display and visitors will have the opportunity to meet the artists behind the work and hear first-hand what inspired them to create their pieces.
Since its inception, the Beaver Creek Art Festival has welcomed thousands of artists from around the country. Artists will travel from California, New York, Maine, Florida and New Mexico, as well as throughout the state of Colorado. Colorado’s own includes Gary Burditt (glass and wood), Terrell Campbell (photography) and Terry Groseclose (jewelry).Selecting artists based on quality and originality, an independent panel of judges chose the exhibiting artists from more than 1,000 submissions.Unlike a gallery or museum, a fine art festival, such as this one, offers the opportunity to meet the artists in person, commission a specific piece, ask questions about techniques and learn the sources of inspiration.
