VAIL, Colorado – The sixth annual Birds of Prey art contest is underway. The contest was developed by KZYR-The Zephyr & The Valley 104.7 and the Vail Valley Foundation.Children ages 7 to 9 and 10 to 12 are invited to submit posters to the contest for a chance to win prizes including a pizza party for their class, an autographed copy of the Birds of Prey World Cup poster from the U.S. Ski Team and more. A bit of fame is also in the mix: winners from each age group will be invited to present their poster at the Giant Slalom race on Sunday, December 5. The winning posters will be displayed for ski fans from around the world to see. The first place winners will also be printed in the Vail Daily and featured on KZYR.com.”The art contest is a great way to get our school children involved with the World Cup races,” said Ceil Folz, president of the Vail Valley Foundation. Year after year, the response from the community and schools has been tremendous. The 2009 Birds of Prey Art contest generated hundreds of quality posters. “When we came up with this idea a couple of years ago, I had no idea how much the community would get behind this,” said Gabrie Higbie of KZYR. “We have been graced by ‘celebrity judges’ and the school district has been of great assistance in getting the kids to participate. I think that this art contest has been a great thread for pulling the community together during this world-class event.” For more information, contact Haley McNeill at 970-926-7625 or haley@kzyr.com.
