Beaver Creek does beacon training Friday

BEAVER CREEK – Ski safety week ends at Beaver Creek Friday with a free avalanche beacon training class and a beacon competition.

Skiers and snowboarders who are interested in learning how to use a beacon or experienced backcountry users looking to improve on their skills can sign up in advance for the hands-on workshop with Beaver Creek Ski Patrol at 970-754-6611.

The beacon training takes place from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. on Friday at Patrol Headquarters at the top of the Cinch Express Lift. The competition is scheduled for 1 p.m. near the lower Centennial Express lift line and participants from the morning session put their skills to the test. Prizes from Beaver Creek Sports will be awarded to the top competitors.

Additionally the resort is also offering “Sweep with Beaver Creek Ski Patrol” at 3 p.m. today and Friday. Interested skiers and riders should meet at Ski Patrol Headquarters at the top of the Cinch Express Lift at 3 p.m. No registration is necessary.
