Beaver Creek hiking center offers two free nordic walking tours

Daily Staff Report

BEAVER CREEK ” Work your upper and lower body during a free Nordic Walking tour with the Beaver Creek Hiking Center. The Hiking Center is offering two free demonstration sessions for the public from 9-10:30 a.m. and 11 a.m.-12:30 p.m. on Saturday, July 2.

Nordic Walking was adapted from cross-country skiing and incorporates specially designed poles with fitness walking. The poles are slightly modified versions of trekking poles and cross-country poles. They are light in weight and feature rubber tips allowing walkers to traverse on and off pavement.

The sport was introduced in Finland in 1997 and has been rapidly growing across Europe. The Hiking Center recently partnered with LEKI to bring the sport to Beaver Creek. The center’s guides have been fully trained and outfitted by LEKI to lead tours.

Two free Nordic Walking tours will take place in Beaver Creek from 9-10:30 a.m. and from 11 a.m. -12:30 p.m. on Saturday, July 2.

Meet at the Beaver Creek Hiking Center near the escalators in the village. Dress in comfortable walking clothing and hiking boots and bring sunscreen and water.
