Beaver Creek hosts micro brewery tasting

BEAVER CREEK – Beaver Creek Resort and the Park Hyatt Beaver Creek Resort and Spa kick off the summer season with the second annual Blues, Brews and Barbecue Festival May 28-29. The two-day festival over Memorial Weekend features barbecue prepared by Kansas City and local chefs, Bon Appétit Magazine barbecue cooking demonstrations, live blues music, kids activities and the largest exclusively Colorado micro brew beer tasting in the state. Guests can vote on their favorite barbecue creations. Park Hyatt Beaver Creek and The Denver Post’s Dick Kreck host the largest exclusively Colorado micro brewery beer tasting in the state Saturday, May 28, from 1-5 p.m. Guests can talk with the brewers at the brewers’ “expo.” Over 100 ales, lagers and stouts will be poured for guests to sample. Two optional seminars will be offered. The Colorado Micro Brewery Beer Tasting benefits Beaver Creek’s Vilar Center for the Arts. Ticket price is $35 per person in advance or $40 at the door. There will also be a four-course dinner paired with beer May 28 at 6:30 p.m.Beaver Creek and visiting guest chefs from Kansas City will offer barbecue treats for purchase on Beaver Creek Plaza. Last year’s winner, Smokin’ Guns BBQ of Kansas City, Mo, will again vie for top honors in the Peoples Choice barbecue contest. Guests can sample food and vote for their favorite barbecue creations. The chef with the most votes will receive a check for $1,000. Second place will receive $500. Third place will receive $250. There will also be free children’s activities on Beaver Creek Plaza, and Bon Appétit Magazine will present three, free culinary demonstrations at noon, 1:30 p.m. and 3 p.m.Blues guitarists Sean Costello and Tommy Castro will rock out the plaza along with soul and blues singer Bettye LaVette.Park Hyatt is offering special two-night packages for the event.
