BEAVER CREEK — The Beaver Creek Rodeo Series, presented by The Westin Riverfront Resort & Spa, begins Thursday for the 15th season.

Cowboy boots, hats and cheers will be in the air as this family-friendly summer tradition returns, with rodeo events, food, drinks, free pony rides and face painting for the kids. Events include bareback and saddle bronc riding, the kid-friendly calf scramble and mutton bustin’, team roping, barrel racing, burro racing and bull riding.

Rodeogoers can take advantage of an extensive bubbly and wine list, margaritas and local craft beer by Vail Brewing Co., plus food from 11 different vendors. Larger parties can experience a VIP group space with private tents, catering and special activities. For group options, contact Megan Meier at memeier@bcresortco.com.

Rodeo gates open at 5 p.m. each Thursday, with The Grand Entry and National Anthem beginning at 6 p.m. Rodeo tickets can now be purchased online one week prior to each event or by visiting the Beaver Creek Summer Adventure Center in Beaver Creek Village until 3 p.m. the day of the rodeo. Tickets may also be purchased at the rodeo beginning at 5 p.m. The rodeo takes place rain or shine, and tickets are nonrefundable.

Pre-rodeo activities start at 5 p.m. and include pony rides, face painting and bounce house, as well as kids’ event registration for mutton bustin’ and the calf scramble. Mutton bustin’ is $25 per child and open to 15 participants weighing 50 pounds or less and measuring 50 inches in height or less.

The calf scramble is complimentary and open to 100 kids, ages 5 to 12. Burro racing is open to anyone 18 or older, and each rodeo allows three, three-person teams. Teams race to grab a burro and then must push, pull and ride it to one end of the arena and back. Burro racing is $25 per team, and registration is on site. Audience participation events are provided on a first-come, first-served basis.

The Beaver Creek Rodeo Series is presented by The Westin Riverfront Resort & Spa, with additional support from Alpine Bank, The Steadman Clinic, East West Destination Hospitality, KSKE Ski Country Radio, the town of Avon and Slifer Smith & Frampton Real Estate.

The Beaver Creek Rodeo grounds are located in Avon behind Chapel Square at Traer Creek. Complimentary shuttle service to the rodeo is available through Beaver Creek’s Dial-a-Ride Service, from both Beaver Creek Village and The Westin Riverfront Resort & Spa. Complimentary parking is available directly across the street from the rodeo grounds, with a one-minute walk to the site.

Alcoholic beverages, pets and glass containers are not permitted on the rodeo grounds. For more information about the Beaver Creek Rodeo Series, or to purchase tickets, visit http://www.beaver creek.com/rodeo.
