Beaver Creek Snowshoe Shuffle April 1, 2006
BEAVER CREEK ” Vail Valley Medical Center’s Foundation presents its thirteenth annual Snowshoe Shuffle at Beaver Creek Resort on Saturday, April 1, 2006.
The Snowshoe Shuffle is one of the largest snowshoe events in North America with more than 1,000 participants expected to walk or run in 10K, 5K, 1K and one-mile events held at 9,500 feet on Beaver Creek Mountain. The Shuffle benefits cancer prevention, education and early detection programs in the Central Rockies.
Adults and children of all ages and abilities can enjoy McCoy Park’s spectacular mountain-top views during the competitive and non-competitive Alpine Bank 10K and 5K races and the Vail Daily one-mile shuffle. The Shuffle will also host a children’s 1K Fun Run for kids.
The Shuffle also honors cancer survivors and celebrates the memories of people that have lost their battle to the disease. About 70 percent of all participants run in honor of someone who has suffered from cancer, survived cancer, or lost their life to cancer. About 5 percent of race participants are cancer survivors themselves.
One hundred percent of net proceeds benefit the Women’s Cancer Coalition whose mission is to support cancer prevention, education and early detection programs at Vail Valley Medical Center which operates the Shaw Regional Cancer Center. The Shaw Regional Cancer Center, which serves a 7 county region in the Central Rockies of Colorado, offers full service medical and radiation oncology services, specialized programs for treating prostate and breast cancer, and complimentary medicine and supportive cancer services.
Blue Creek Children’s Theater will offer free children’s entertainment for kids ages four to 12 during the Snowshoe Shuffle. Most kids will participate in the Kids K Fun Run prior to being escorted down to the Vilar Center in Beaver Creek Village, where Blue Creek Productions will entertain them while the parents race. Please note that non-skiing children under the age of three cannot ride on an open chair lift.
