Beaver Creek to hold ski patrol try-outs, March 19 and 25
BEAVER CREEK- If the urge to join the ranks of Beaver Creek’s finest has struck, prepare to provide plenty of proof on March 19 and 25, 2006.
These dates mark Beaver Creek Ski Patrol’s two annual testing opportunities for new hire candidates and offer those who aspire, and pass muster, a chance at donning a white cross-emblazoned patrol jacket for the 2006-2007 season.
“These two testing days offer interested skiers, riders and tele skiers the opportunity to come out, test their skills on a variety of terrain and show us what they’re made of prior to the end of the season,” said Beaver Creek Ski Patrol Director Addy McCord.
“We’ll be evaluating each candidate’s abilities in a variety of conditions, including steeps, crud, and powder. We’re looking for men and women with strong, solid abilities in all conditions, not just finesse.”
Testing includes an opening meeting and explanation, the ski test, which consists of two-to-three runs taken in variable conditions and evaluated by four or five members of Beaver Creek’s current patrol team, and a closing meeting. Participants will be advised of test results at the closing meeting.
Those who pass the physical test will be invited to fill out an application and discuss further opportunities with Beaver Creek Patrol for the coming season.
Hiring of patrol positions takes place each fall, prior to ski season.
Each season, the Beaver Creek Ski Patrol has a handful of openings on its 40 member staff. The Ski Patrol is charged with opening and closing the mountain each day, providing emergency medical care, skier responsibility education and nforcement, mitigation of avalanche hazard, guest relations and assistance. It is a highly sought-after position, and one never taken lightly.
Anyone interested in joining either test day should contact Beaver Creek Ski Patrol at (970) 845-6610. Reservations are required and should be made in advance of either test date: Sunday, March 19 or Saturday, March 25, 2006.
Participants will meet at 9:30 a.m. at Patrol Headquarters at the top of the Cinch Express Lift (#8) on the morning of their chosen test date.
