“As the world around us seems to get faster and crazier, I think people seek opportunities to get out of the house, a quick moment to forget their troubles and have a good laugh,” said Kris Sabel, Vilar Center’s executive director. “Well, we have three terrific shows on the comedy series this winter season that should fill that need. They all fall into the category of leave the kids at home — so leave the kids at home, and come out and have a great night away from it all!”

LINEUP of Comedians

Immediately following the holiday season, make plans to see larger than life comedian Ralphie May (Jan. 17, 7:30 p.m.). May debuted on season one of “Last Comic Standing” and was voted one of Variety’s 10 Comics to Watch. May has released four one-hour comedy specials and will be releasing two more this year. Tickets are $59.50.

Up next in the laughter line-up is the Comedy Central regular Lewis Black (Jan. 31, 7:30 p.m.). Known for his hysterical angry-rant, mental-breakdown style of comedy, Black is seen regularly on “The Daily Show with Jon Stewart.” A passionate performer who is more pissed-off optimist than mean-spirited curmudgeon, Black is the rare comic who can cause an audience to laugh themselves into incontinence while making compelling points about the absurdity of our world. He performs more than 200 nights a year to sold out crowds. Tickets to Lewis Black are $88.

Then, bring on the all-female funny with Jenny McCarthy’s Dirty, Sexy, Funny (March 6, 7:30 p.m.) tour. With the help of a hilarious, all-female slate of comediennes, McCarthy takes an outrageous look at life as a contemporary woman: from single motherhood to casual sex. McCarthy and her suitably inappropriate gal-pals deliver stand-up brilliance as well as a series of sketch vignettes from McCarthy herself. Tickets to Dirty, Sexy, Funny are $59.50.
