Behind the scenes of Warren Miller films in Vail

VAIL, Colorado – Local Warren Miller film star, Chris Anthony will speak at The Sonnenalp from 6 to 7:30 p.m. Wednesday as well as hold a Q&A after the presentation. Anthony will showcase “A Skiers Journal,” a 35-minute film that details the behind-the-scenes making of the Warren Miller films. The film explores the many details that go into making exciting snow-sports films, including what it takes to get the shot, positioning the camera, shot timing, and the advanced equipment used to make the films. Proceeds for this event go to fund a film project created by The Colorado Ski & Snowboard Museum based on the famed 10th Mountain Division. The money raised will support the next step in the project, which will be to document the WWII veterans of the 10th Mountain Division.The film will focus on The 10th Mountain Division, the men’s training in Colorado at Camp Hale, the famous Trooper Ski Traverse between Leadville and Aspen and the 10th Mountain Division’s impact on the U.S. ski industry. Anthony has skied since he was 18 months old, lived in Vail for more than 30 years and is Ski Club Vail alum and has been skiing for Warren Miller films for more than 21 years. He considers Warren Miller the “Godfather” of ski/snowboard films and enjoys being part of the team, he said.Only 150 tickets are available for a $20 tax-deductible donation.
