LEADVILLE – Colorado Mountain College teacher Curt Bender has been chosen the regional community college’s faculty member of the year. Bender, who works at the college’s Leadville campus, got a $600 check, a silver plaque and cake decorated with a miniature Snowcat. As a member of the college’s Ski Area Operations program, Bender was a head consultant to Soo-Chul Park, a student who designed the Kangwon Land ski in Gangwon, South Korea. The resort will opens in December with three gondolas, two detachable quad chairlifts, four six-passenger detachable chairlifts and four conveyor belt lifts. That’s believed to be more lifts and uphill capacity than any other ski resort has ever had on opening day, according to Colorado Mountain College.”That man can do amazing things,” Hannah Gold Sutton, a graduate of the Ski Area Operations program, said of Bender. “He has a wide variety of skills for sure. He brings his hands on skills from working at ski areas into the classroom really well.” Vail, Colorado
