Bernard Schlegel, 86, of Stillwater, Okla., died on Friday in Cushing, Okla. Memorial services in Minturn are pending.

He was born on July 18, 1922, in Minturn to Mathias Schlegel and Elvira (McKinney) Schlegel. He married Marcia Audray Barlow on Aug. 13, 1942 in Grand Junction. Marcia preceded him in death on Jan. 15, 2001.

He grew up on the family’s Piney Homestead in Eagle County. He worked for the Eagle Mine in Gilman for 47 years, first as a carpenter then later in human resources. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, horseback riding, and spending time with his family and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents; wife; daughter Mona Lee Schlegel; three brothers; and two sisters.

He is survived by son Keenan Schlegel and his wife, Shirley, of Pueblo; daughters Berna Cosner of Lee’s Summit, Mo., and Rinda Schlegel, of Morrison, Okla.; grandchildren Melissa Wynia, of Esterville, Iowa, Matthew Schlegel of Pueblo, Nathan Schlegel of Fowler, Colo., Steven Cosner of Miami, Jeffrey Cosner of Lee’s Summit, and Cody Taulman of Stillwater, Okla.; and great grandchildren Nikelle Wynia, Bethany Wynia, Myriah Wynia, Lindsay Wynia, Ethan Wynia, Ashlynn Schlegel, Jace Matthew Schlegel, Jeffrey Michael Cosner, Megan Elizabeth Cosner, Chayse Jordan Cosner, Christopher Jordan, and Heather Hobbs.
