Best Of: Apres Scene in Vail

For 22 years Phil Long has been playing the apres scene at The Red Lion. He finally had to bow to fate and bought the joint with his wife and a partner a few years ago. The same people come back again and again, expecting to see him ” and the other folks they’ve met over the years. “People come back the same week every year,” he says. “They look forward to seeing each other, and I look forward to facilitating that.”

The Tap Room has local apres cred ” and national, too. Voted the no. 8 apres ski bar in the country by Forbes, the Bridge Street joint is a busy scene. Have a pitcher, some wings and tell tall tales of a day well lived.

In Lionshead at Garfinkel’s, it’s hard to say what’s more of an institution: the deck or the shot-ski. With a full view of the mountain, the deck is unsurpassed on sunny days. But the shot-ski has history on its side.

For those wanting a more intimate scene there’s the Sonnenalp’s King’s Club. The grand piano is always in use, and the crowd inevitably becomes part of the show.
