This year’s annual Literacy Project Luncheon will feature Eileen Garvin, the bestselling author behind “The Music of Bees” and her latest book “Crow Talk” — a moving story of healing, unexpected friendship and the quiet strength found in nature.

“‘Crow Talk’ is deeply rooted in the themes of friendship, recovery, and the transformative power of connection – all of which resonate strongly with the spirit of The Literacy Project,” said executive director Colleen Gray. “Eileen Garvin is the perfect author for this year’s event.”

Published in 2024, “Crow Talk” is a national bestseller that is now available in paperback. Garvin’s debut novel, “The Music of Bees,” earned praise from “Good Morning America,” the Good Housekeeping Book Club, People Magazine, Library Reads and the Washington Post, among others. Garvin’s memoir, “How to be a Sister,” was named an Indie Next by IndieBound, was chosen as a Book of the Month by Target and Kindle, and was recently released in audio book.

“I’m so impressed by the breadth of The Literacy Project’s programming,” Garvin said. “This organization does incredible work to reach kids and adults with a range of learning abilities and needs in Eagle County. I’m thrilled to support The Literacy Project’s mission by speaking at this year’s annual lunch. I look forward to talking about books, writing and how reading creates community.”

In addition to Garvin’s presentation, guests can look forward to artwork by featured artists Tara Novak, Elke Wells and Michael Hefferon – all of whom are involved with EagleARTS and ARTSPaCE workshop + gallery. Novak is creating a collage painting that highlights a “Crow Talk” quote and various references from the book, as well as note cards of the painting that each donor will receive at their place setting. Also, every table will feature a book folding centerpiece made by Wells and Hefferon is crafting an arch sculpture made of books.

“After seeing my book folding art at ARTSPaCE, I was contacted by 11 Eleven Creatives to make centerpieces for the luncheon,” Wells said. “I’m a lifelong birder and crows are one of my favorite birds because of their intelligence, so this was right up my alley. I’m also an avid reader and have been interested in learning more about The Literacy Project, so it was serendipitous.”

For the second year in a row, 4 Eagle Ranch is hosting the luncheon on July 9 from 11:30 a.m. to 2 p.m., where attendees will be treated to a catered meal, select beer and wine and a stunning view. Located in the Eagle River basin, the sprawling 1,000-acre ranch was originally homesteaded in 1885 and is an important part of Eagle County’s western heritage. “4 Eagle Ranch is thrilled to partner with The Literacy Project,” said Mary Harrill, director of sales and events for 4 Eagle Ranch. “Their work to promote literacy and learning in the Vail Valley aligns perfectly with our commitment to strengthening the community.”
