Betty Ford tribute set for Aug. 7 in Vail

VAIL – A ceremony honoring former first lady Betty Ford will be held in Vail Aug. 7. First lady Laura Bush along with former first ladies Barbara Bush and Roslyn Carter will lead the event at the Betty Ford Alpine Gardens. “Betty Ford is one of the most extraordinary first ladies this nation has ever had,” said June Vanourek, an organizer of the event. “She is a breast cancer survivor, a co-founder of a substance abuse center that has helped tens of thousands of people, a founder of the Vail International dance festival, an extraordinary hostess for the annual World Forum, and a genuinely nice neighbor and friend.”A special album containing personal letters and photos will be presented to Ford that evening. Memorabilia is still being accepted for addition into the album.
