Big Daddy Lee & The Kingbees bring their sound to Eagle Thursday
EAGLE, Colorado Big Daddy Lee and the Kingbees prove that you dont have to be from the Mississippi Delta to play the Blues. The Roaring Fork Valley-based band offers up a lively, urban, blues-inspired sound, which you can catch live and for free Thursday at 6:30 p.m. in the Eagle Town Park as the ShowDown Town concert series continues.
The skillful, accomplished musicians of Big Daddy Lee & the Kingbees have been playing the area for years, and have amassed a devoted following across the state. Comprised of singer-guitarist Lee Hollowell, harmonica player Mike Stahl, bassist Larry Gruber and drummer Rob Leventhal, Big Daddy Lee specializes in blues. Their sound finds a balance between traditional Delta blues and the more contemporary Chicago-style blues. The Delta blues sound is typified by fiery slide guitar and passionate vocalizing. Chicago blues is often thought of as an amplification of the traditional Delta style, adding drums, bass, piano and harmonica.Big Daddy Lee and the Kingbees meld these two great genres of blues in a sound that pays homage to both, while at the same time, creating a unique sound all their own. Big Daddy Lee takes the stage at the Eagle Town Park at 6:30 p.m. A variety of childrens activities will accompany the free music, including face painting and an appearance by Stretch the Stiltwalker. Stretch will mix it up with the crowd for fun and pictures, then hop down and let the kids try their hands or should we say feet at stilt-walking! Picnics, coolers and friendly dogs are also welcome at this family friendly event. The American National Bank ShowDown Town is a project of the Vail ValleyFoundation.
