Bikers deliver holiday toys to Salvation Army
EAGLE COUNTY – Darrell and Ada Ewing, of Gypsum, decided they wanted to host their own toy drive to benefit Eagle County, rather than drive all the way to Grand Junction to participate in an event there. The couple was sitting in a bar about 14 years ago deciding whether they should go to Grand Junction, when it dawned on them that Eagle County lacked a big toy drive event for the holidays. As the 14th Annual Hogs ‘N Rods Toy Run got underway Saturday afternoon in Eagle, Ada Ewing smiled and said she’s so happy to see how much the event has grown. At least 80 “hogs and rods,” – motorcycles and classic cars – participated in the event, which went from the Brush Creek Saloon in Eagle to Finnegan’s Wake in Avon Saturday afternoon, bringing with them toys, money, gifts and caring hearts for local children in need. Darrell Ewing is especially happy that all of the toys and money donated each year remain here in the valley.”We wanted to keep it local,” Darrell Ewing said. All of the toys and gifts will go directly to the Vail Valley Salvation Army’s Adopt-a-Family program, which helps local families in need provide meals and gifts to their children around the holidays. “They just do such an awesome job for us,” said Tsu Wolin-Brown, who runs the Salvation Army. “We are so grateful.”Community Editor Lauren Glendenning can be reached at 970-748-2983 or email@example.com.
