Bikini coffee shop sparks Aurora boycott

AURORA, Colo. – A coffee shop that sends bikini clad women onto city streets to advertise has prompted a city official in Aurora to promote a boycott of businesses around the Perky Cups shop.

Councilwoman Molly Markert sent a small petition and letter of complaint to the shop’s property manager. In the letter, Markert conceded there was nothing illegal about selling coffee served by scantily clad young women. But she suggested the women promoting the coffee shop could be “raped and murdered.”

Perky Cups’ owner, Jason Bernal, told The Aurora Daily Sentinel that his 10 employees aren’t at risk and that Markert’s letter went “overboard.”

Nearby storeowners are divided on whether the bikini-clad coffee saleswomen are helping or hurting business.
