Bison slayings case in court

FAIRPLAY, Colo. ” A software CEO accused of allowing the killing of his neighbor’s bison in Colorado’s South Park last winter is due in court.

Jeff Hawn is scheduled to enter a plea Monday before a judge in Fairplay. He’s charged with theft and 32 counts of aggravated animal cruelty for allegedly allowing a group of men to hunt bison that had been wandering on to his ranch.

He sued his neighbor just days before the animals were found shot on his land as well as other properties in the remote area.

Hawn is the president and CEO of Seattle-based Attachmate and lives in Austin, Texas. He’s being represented by Pamela Mackey, the lawyer who defended Kobe Bryant against sexual assault charges at a Vail-area resort in 2003 that were later dropped.
