Name of Business: The Hawaiian Coffee and Smoothie Cafe and Duke’s Dogs at the Eagle Convenience StoreAddress: 0800 Market Drive, Eagle, CO 81613 Phone: 328-0800 Fax: (970)925-7935 E-mail: jds@sopris.netDate opened: Oct. 16Owner: The Eagle Convenience Store

What goods or services do you provide and what product lines or services do you offer? Gourmet tropical coffees with full expresso bar, smoothies and gourmet hot dogs, bratwursts, and polish sausages. What strategy do you use to differentiate your business from your competition? We try to be on the cutting edge of products, design and technology – but that’s all secondary to our focus on customer service.

What philosophy do you follow in dealing with your customers? We strive to be the best at what we do and that includes exceptional customer service. We realize that in today’s competitive marketplace, that we are all in the service business regardless of what product we sell and thus, we try to excel with fast and friendly service.Tell us a little about your background and experience: The Eagle store has been in existence for 10 years. This year, Taco Bell moved from the store to a free-standing location, so we created the Hawaiian Coffee and Smoothie Cafe and Duke’s Dogs to fill a niche that we identified in the Eagle market – superb quality coffee avialable through a drive up window and a popular menu item (hot dogs) not otherwise avialable in the area. The Eagle store is part of a three-store company that includes the Basalt Convenience Store and the Cowen Center Convenience Store in Carbondale as well as Eagle Diner, Red Rock Diner and the New Castle Diner. What led you to start the business here?

Obviously the location near an interstate was compelling and the demographics of Eagle are perfect for our convenience store and diner business. There was no one meeting the need for drive-up coffee, so the Hawaiian Coffee and Smoothie Cafe was a perfect fit for the the area given the location of the Eagle Convenience Store. Duke’s was also a natural fit because no one offers hot dogs, bratwursts and sausages cooked to order in a fast-food environment. What is the most humorous thing that has happened since you started your business? We’ve only opened recently, and we are still waiting for the humor.Vail, Colorado
